So the New Orleans Hornets are in first place in the west. First
place. Two games ahead of the Lakers and everyone else. The Hornets
don't have a Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce combo, they don't have a Shaq-
Wade combo, or even a Duncan-Parker combo. The Hornets have Chris
Paul. A POINT GUARD. Oh, I know everyone is looking for the next
Jordan, the type of slash player that can do it all, play forward,
guard, whatever is needed. The type of guy that can take over a
game. You know the type, the Lebron James-Kobe Bryant-Carmelo Anthony-
Tracy McGrady type. There is no doubt that Carmelo Anthony put the
Nuggets on the map. There is no doubt that LeBron James put the
Cavaliers on the map.
So what's all this talk about Kobe Bryant? What's this reasoning that
he has 3 NBA champion****p rings? Didn't he have Shaq during those
years? Didn't the Lakers have to work to find more players to get
back to a decent level of play despite the fact that they have Kobe
Bryant? Look, I know Kobe has talent galore, we all know that. We
all know he can completely take over a game. But so can Lebron James,
Carmelo Anthony, etc etc.
But have we EVER seen a team come from so far down, a team like New
Orleans, on the back of a point guard? A guy that elevates the play
of everyone around him, because he's just that good? A guy that is a
true floor general in every sense of the word? People are saying he's
now better than Steve Nash and Jason Kidd. Forget those guys, and
start thinking in terms of Isiah Thomas, Dennis Johnson, Magic
Johnson.
But no, we have this column, linked below, where someone is actually
arguing because the Lakers are back in the title hunt FINALLY, that
somehow it is Kobe Bryant's "turn" to win the MVP.
Chris Paul. The guy may not seem like a household name, yet. That
makes what he's done in New Orlean all the more remarkable. Kobe has
never done what Chris Paul has done this year. Jordan didn't do it
either. Shaq didn't do it, and neither did Larry Bird or any number
of other stars. Lebron hasn't done it yet, even if he did lead his
team to the finals, he didn't lead them to a 1st seed on the heels of
basically nothing.
The column below is the column of a wannabe. He wants to always be
cheering for greatness and cheering for winners. He's forgotten what
an underdog is, and he clearly doesn't realize amazing feats when they
are happening right in front of him. Should New Orleans win a couple
of titles in a row, I'm sure he'll be singing Chris Paul's praises.
Let's get ahead of that curve. Chris Paul's year is THIS year.
