Enforcing the rule is just, and it has prevented fights. It would be nice
to hear an official explanation why Duncan and Bowen were not suspended.
The Suns best chance is to play clean no-contact small ball against the
Spurs in game 5. With home court advantage, they actually have a slim
chance to win if the refs call it close, because the Spurs don't have as
much experience as the Suns at the no-contact (improperly called no
defense)
game. Even if they get creamed in game 5, they have the chance to prove
themselves again in San Antonio, and probably don't deserve to advance if
they can't win game 6 with Horry missing. If it makes it to 7, homecourt
will then be a factor. D'Antoni said after game 1 that a closely called
game favors the Suns, so by setting the tone in game 5, the Sun's chances
are excellent in game 7 if it's called tight.
Of course, it is at least as probable that after losing game 5, the Suns
will lose on San Antonio's court. We will hear about how the veteran
champion Spurs showed their experience by staying on the bench (still, the
Duncan/Bowen incident bugs me), and how their defence was just too much
for
the young, inexperienced, soft Suns.
But,
forever after when Suns fans are reminded that their team has never won a
title, we can respond that it took 6 stitches to the nose, a knee to the
groin, and a body check into the scoretable on our smallest guy to stop
us.
If that's what it takes to win champion****ps, we'll pass, enjoy our MVPs
and
regular season success, and continue to ****p wifebeaters, druggies, and
other miscreants out of the state before our children get the idea they
are
role models.
