After thinking about this I agree. Unless the new GM has no
confidence in Korver's abilities over the next few years the benefits
of this salary dump don't seem that great. I had assumed that Korver
had signed a typically silly BK contract but his numbers over the next
three years seemed reasonable (a little over $15 M in total, no?).
And he was popular (do they change all the billboards and promotional
material with his picture?).
I'm willing to give the new guy the benefit of the doubt--but I can
only suspend judgment for so long. If this turns out to be a painful
but necessary step in some plan, fine. If history shows this to be a
move that was all about freeing a little cap space at the cost of a
useful and popular player; not so good.
