Re: Giricek / Jerry Sloan verbal exchange during Utah's four-game

What a lousy trade. Ugh, if this is a reflection of the Stefanski era
it's not a good omen at all. Korver wasn't a big star or anything but
he was certainly the kind of role player off the bench that any good
team can use to good effect. Not only that but he was the Sixers'
*only* reliable perimeter shooter--and in that respect one of the best
in the entire league--so it's not like his skills were superfluous or
anything with the current roster. While it does save some cap space,
it's still marginal, and it's not like Korver's contract was a
particularly bad one as he was more or less getting market value for
someone of his abilities (compare, for instance, to Jason Kapono).
Why not dump Willie Green on someone, or Carney, or, naturally,
Miller? At least the team has other guys to fill those positions.
While it could be part of a tank job for the draft (ask the Celtics
how that works out), the benefits to me of this trade seem to be far
overshadowed by what they lose. Meh.

For what it's worth, I've always kind of liked Giricek and he could
help the team. Certainly he's a better option at SG than Green or
Carney. Too bad he's apparently destined to be dumped at the end of
the year.
