It's true. None of the re****ts identified the draft pick, presumably it is
this year's Jazz pick.
At first glance, this trade is hard to figure. Swapping Korver for
Giricek
is an obvious net minus. Giricek has some talent, but basically he is a
30-year old NBA journeyman. He is not going to be the offensive threat
off
the bench that Korver was. Sure, we got a first roundn pick, but do the
Sixers really want two first round picks this year? It's already a young
team, where Korver was actually one of the vets.
My first guess is that there must be some salary cap purpose behind the
transaction. My second guess would be that this is only the first trade
of
.. . . more to come.
If there are no more trades to come, perhaps Giricek is ticketed for the
Rodney Carney role. Having watched Carney start the last several games
with
Green hurt, this is fine with me. I've about given up on Carney. I
watched
the first half of the Kings game last night, Carney could not stay in
front
of his man. On offense, he went 2-8 in 17 minutes. Braaaack.
Perhaps Thaddeus Young will move into Korver's minutes, if not his role.
Young has played very well lately, including what I saw last night. In 15
minutes, he grabbed 5 boards, made three steals, and scored 6 points on
3-4
shooting, including one great jam. Young has show rapid improvement for
such a young rookie. Speaking of rookies, Jason Smith also played very
well
last night, shooting 4-4 (including a three!) and grabbing some boards.
However, all this must be kept in perspective in that the Kings were
without
their three best players, Bibby, Artest, and Martin. At least Mikki Moore
wasn't constantly running down the lane and throwing down dunks, as he did
all game long in Philly. Dalembert and Smith stayed home more, and
played
the lane well.
