Here's the crazy part: they paid him more than the $5.3 million mid-level
exception. The re****ts are he went for $21 million over three years.
Can this possibly be true? Why would anyone pay an underachieving stiff
like Milicic that kind of money? Yes, he's a big guy, and I wouldn't mind
having him on the Sixers as a Dalembert back-up, but at nowhere near those
prices.
This is going to make it a lot harder for teams to sign free agent big
men.
If Darko is worth $7 million a year, what is Chris Mihm worth? $9 or 10
million? Dalembert is overpaid at $9 million, IMHO.
If this is going to set the market for 2007, I would not be surprised at
all
if the Sixers pass on free agents altogether this year, and conserve cap
space for the 2008 year, when there will be some real talent on the
market.
