We are in the Off-Season...in a s****t were practically no one cares.
EVERY team has rumors of weird deals. They are nothing more than
fodder to get you talking. Much like the KG to Lakers rumor. The 4
way deal with Boston. Kobe here and there and no where.
This is just one in a long line of "done" rumors that will be floating
all off-season.
Look how long it took to trade Iverson (and I am not saying Iverson
and Kobe are the same) but it's the contract. It is hard to trade a
star player with a big contract and still get fair value in return. I
am STILL convinced Kobe will be a Laker come this season unless the
Lakers accept a lesser deal. Which they won't.
Outside of the fact that Larry Bird called the O'Neal to NJ proposal
"bogus". There is no way that Rod Thorn is THAT stupid to trade both
Jefferson AND Krstic in any deal...not after the reaction to trading
Martin a few years back. Which did do some damage since owner Bruce
Ratner made a public statement admitting he made a mistake in trading
him. (Which is why they went after Vince...to appease the fans). On a
personal note, O'Neal is a walking injury factory...more so than
Carter. A BIG RED FLAG is how many times O'Neal's name comes up in
trade talks. He played 69 games last year, and the last time he played
anything that even resembled a full season was 78 games in 2003. I'd
love to have a big shot blocker on the Nets, they have been missing
one FOREVER. But not at the expense of Jefferson and Krstic. The Nets
have maybe one more year with Kidd, if that. When he goes they should
have Marcus Williams taking over.
I just read that Carter has been brought back in with a 4 year deal.
Worth every penny. He amounted to 25.9% of total Nets points last
season...plus he's a Ratner favorite, he ain't going anywhere...ever.
As a comparison, only LeBron (26.9%) and Kobe (28.7%) had more of a
percentage for their teams.
For now the deal is dead and I am breathing a sigh of relief.
