There is no coaches union but he would have had to pay Laimbeer's contract
and for the pistons job plus hire a new coach for the Shock. And as we
know
that is break up a known good thing to gamble twice.

So either they did not want to pay him, Dumars thought it was a bad idea,
or
perhaps Bill was offered the job and has decided he rather stick where he
is 
and only working 4
months a year.
