First of all, I'll state that I am neither a fan nor hater of either
team. I'm pretty neutral between the two.
1. Denver really was showing up NY - I usually disregard when the
losing team complains that the winning team still has their starters
in. This is because the losing team usually still has their starters,
but they expect the winning team to pull their starters first. However,
in this case, the Knicks had already pulled Eddy Curry, Jamal Crawford,
and Stephon Marbury. Meanwhile Denver still had 4/5 of their starters
in: Carmelo, Camby, Miller, and Smith. That really is showing up the
other team and running up the score, because the losing team had
already conceded the game by pulling their top 3 players.
2. Foul was unnecessary - Obviously, the foul was intentional and
unnecessary, but all that should have happened was some pu****ng and
shoving, and Smith getting ejected.
3. Carmelo threw the first punch - Before that, it was all pu****ng,
shoving, tackling, but it's not a real fight until someone throws a
punch, and it was Carmelo. This was a total chickensh*t punch. And
immediately after he threw it, he started backpedaling... all the way
to the other end of the court. I say Carmelo should get 10 games for
throwing the first punch, and 10 more for running away.
Here's a video of the brawl:
