Hornets dancer dies in accident

Brittanie Montgomery's dream was to become a cheerleader for the
Dallas Cowboys. A big step along that journey happened when she was
named this season to the Honeybees, the Hornets dance team.
Montgomery died Thursday in a two-vehicle wreck in northwest Oklahoma
City.
About 6 p.m. Thursday, Montgomery, 19, was driving east on Northwest
Expressway near Mustang Road, lost control, overcorrected, crossed the
median and collided with a westbound pickup, police said.
Members of a family of four who were in the pickup were taken to a
local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Lt. David Ellis
said. Their names weren't known Friday evening.
Montgomery was a former dance team member for the University of
Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz.
"Seeing her perform, she was just a sparkle. You could tell. She
smiled well. I think she liked the center spotlight and she was good
at it,” said Gina Harris, Montgomery's mother. "She would make a goal
and go for it. If she didn't make it, that didn't stop her from
trying.
"I know I was told multiple times at her age that I burned the candle
at both ends. I think she burned it even more.”
Hornets owner George ****nn and his wife, Denise, issued a statement
through team personnel: "We are profoundly saddened by this tragedy,
and on behalf of the entire organization offer our deepest condolences
to her family. Our hearts go out to them as all of us cope with this
enormous loss.”
Harris said her daughter loved water and swimming.
"We have a pool and she would live out there. She would find fun with
anything she did,” Harris said.
Montgomery lived with her aunt in Piedmont and was a sophomore at UCO.
She was studying child development and wanted to help abused children
after graduation.
Services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith and Turner Chapel
in Yukon.
