PHILADELPHIA A gritty comeback attempt by the Penn womens
basketball team was not enough as the Quakers fell to Brown
Saturday night, 70-62, at The Palestra.

With the win, Brown (18-9, 12-2 Ivy League) clinched a share
of the Ivy League title. Princeton and Dartmouth both won,
and each can enter a tie with the Bears with wins on Tuesday,
potentially setting up a three-way tie for the title.

Joey Rhoads was the games top scorer, draining 25 points on
9-of-16 shooting. She also hit six three-pointers and collected
five rebounds and three assists in playing all 40 minutes. Monica
Naltner was also key, scored 17 points and grabbed nine boards.
Sarah Hayes starred for the Bears, tallying 23 points and grabbing
10 boards.

Down by 12 at the half, Penn (5-21, 3-10 Ivy League) slowly chipped
away at the Brown lead. A three-pointer by Rhoads and a lay-up by
Carrie Biemer cut an 11-point lead to four with 8:35 left to go, but
the Bears came out of a timeout on an 8-2 run to retake an 11-point
lead.

However, Rhoads again swung the momentum around, hitting two
three-pointers to cut the deficit to five with 1:42 to play.
Unfortunately, Penn would never get closer, as the Bears made eight
of their nine free throws in the final minute to secure victory.

Before the game, Penns three seniors Jennifer Fleischer, Henley
Hansen, and Rachel Wilson were honored in a brief ceremony for
their contributions to the Penn womens basketball program.

The Quakers will wrap up their season on the road at Princeton
Tuesday evening. Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m. as the matinee of a
womens-mens doubleheader.
