PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's basketball team fell behind in the first
half and was never able to recuperate as it fell to University City rival
Drexel, 78-44, on Thursday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The Quakers (1-8) took the first lead of the game after Ashley Gray's
lay-up and a three-pointer by Joey Rhoads put Penn ahead 5-0, but Drexel
(5-4) quickly responded with a 9-0 run to take a lead they would not
relinquish.

The Dragons shot 51.6 percent (16-of-31) in the first half to Penn's 33
percent and led 38-18 at the break. The Quakers could never quite get it
going in the second half, shooting an abysmal 28 percent from the field
while Drexel's balanced attack led by Catherine Scanlon and Nicole Hester
kept the game out of reach.

Drexel out-rebounded Penn 41-29 on the game and had five different players

in double-figure scoring.

Rhoads paced the Quakers with 17 points and three assists while Gray
added 11 points and four rebounds.

The Quakers will try and snap their eight-game losing streak on Saturday,
Dec. 31, when they take on Marist at The Palestra. Tip-off is slated for
1 p.m.
