The Quakers improve to 8-1 in the Ivy League with big
win at Yale.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Penn women's basketball team got
back on the winning track in good fa****on with a 76-56
win at Yale on Saturday night to sweep the season series
with the Bulldogs for the first time since the 2000-01
season.
The Quakers looked to rebound from their first Ivy League
loss by coming out shooting against the Bulldogs. They
were successful, shooting 48.4 percent from the field
(15-of-31) and a sultry 55.6 percent from beyond the
arc (5-of-9).
Jewel Clark led all scorers in the first half with 14 points,
hitting on 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity
stripe. Karen Habrukowich also registered double figures in
the first period with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Penn opened the game on a 6-0 run on field goals from Clark,
Habrukowich and Jennifer Fleischer. Joey Rhoads hit one of
her two first-half three pointers to give the Red and Blue a
36-27 advantage with 4:13 remaining in the first half. Rhoads
finished the game hitting 50 percent of her three-point attempts
(3-of-6) for nine points off the bench.
Yale cut its deficit down to 36-32 on a trey from Brynn Gingras
and two field goals from Erica Davis with less than four minutes
remaining in the half. The Quakers answered and expanded to its
largest lead, 42-32, heading into the break. The Bulldogs'
leading scorer this season, Erica Davis (10.3 ppg average) led
Yale in the first half with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting from
the floor. Davis finished the game with 18 points (8-of-18).
Penn started the second half where it left off before the break,
extending its lead to 17 points, 51-34, on a Rhoads trey at 15:24.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to nine due to an 8-0 run spanning 4:07.
Tory Mauseth sparked the run with a three-point field goal and
Davis capped the run with a lay up.
The Quakers pulled back out to a double digit lead, 59-46, at the
8:57 mark. Amanda Kammes sparked the 8-5 spurt with two field
goals. She finished with eight points, hitting 4-of-6 free throws.
Kammes also had seven assists.
Penn clamped down on the Yale offense the remainder of the game,
allowing just four more field goals and holding the Bulldogs to
29.0 percent from the field in the second half. The Red and Blue
enjoyed its largest lead with no time remaining on the clock,
76-56, to bounce back from the loss to Brown and improve to 14-8
overall and 8-1 in the Ivy League.
Three Quakers finished in double figures led by Clark who finished
with 23 points and 10 boards for her 10th double-double of the
season. Jennifer Fleischer also recorded a double-double with 12
points and 10 rebounds. Karen Habrukowich finished with 13 on
5-of-9 shooting from the field.
Penn will travel to Cornell and Columbia next Friday and Saturday,
respectively, for 7 p.m. tip offs.
